The Beu Sisters
Disney compilation faves who I know next to nothing about (comp material seems to exceed their other stuff I've heard). The Myspace page reveals that they are from Florida, but seem to think they live in England or something.
"Danielle was only six years old when we first sang together – all five of us girls and Mum," recalls Jilaine
Huckapoo
Pixel Perfect vets go from anonymous to semi-anonymous. For the record, I like them better ANONYMOUS, both in theory and in practice. The provided tracks are bland dance/pop/rock. I would say this sounds kind of like very weak Hilary Duff, but I'm convinced that the new Hilary singles actually sound like a more bubblegum-friendly Killers, so I'll go with P!nk xerox with a hint of "Saved by the Bell" soundtrack. Hm, I kind of like "Crash the Party," though...
Huckapoo (unfortunately) have (two) names now.
♥ Lindsay Nyman [Joey Thunders] - Age 15
♥ Brittany Lahm [Twiggy Stardom] - Age 16
♥ Brooke Mori [PJ Bardot] - Age 14
♥ Jordan Price [Groovy Tuesday] - Age 16
♥ Brittney Segal [Angel Sparks] - Age 15
Which name is fake? PJ Bardot sounds more legit to me than Brooke Mori! Hm, Joey Ramone, Johnny Thunders, PJ Harvey, Brigitte Bardot? Also, Huckapoo is a self-described "indie" band.
Chrissy!
Weird. I found Chrissy while background-checking producers Dow Brain and Brian Young (Leslie Carter, LFO). This sounds very under-produced, and a lot is pretty cloying. Also, there's a sort of Tammy Faye thing going on with the make-up.
Pros: Name-checks Deeee-lite and "Zappa AND the Mothers of Invention," among like six thousand random other musical favorites. Very ADD taste (actually I'm skeptical if she really likes all these artists!), too bad it doesn't come through in the music.
Cons: The music is pretty rough. Admittedly these are demos, but...nah. "I Took Your Boyfriend" is about 1% as much fun as it needs to be. "Big" cuts out some of the abrasive wannabe punk 'tude, which works better for her.
Rose Falcon
Daughter of Nashville artist Billy Falcon, Rose Falcon's biggest claim to fame so far is "Up Up Up," a fantastic song from...Inspector Gadget, I think (as well as her debut, which is on its way!). One great novelty single, plus a few pretty damn decent pop country tunes (out comes the accent!), regular blog entries, and a funny, self-deprecating profile:
Hey guys its me! Yes the Up, Up ,Up girl - and yes I am still alive! Lol!! I guess I just needed some time to think and figure things out. I mean everyone does- right? It's just different when people are waiting for you to do so. There is alot of pressure- but I think I've finally got some new music that I am really excited about.
One of my favorite new friends! I'll be looking for her new album, apparently to be released later this year on Columbia.
More to follow. In the meantime you can visit my Myspace page (formerly the site for now-defunct webzine Basshead Media) and try to guess how many members of Jump5 are friends with me.
