I'm leaving for Boston for about a week tomorrow (no Skye Friday, sorry folks!), but there are a few follow-ups to recent posts that I thought I should get out of the way now:
1) MYSPACE PEEK INTO LESLIE CARTER'S NEW IMAGE AND THE BARBIE DIARIES
As I mentioned in the last post, I've been doing some Myspace googlin', and I found two very interesting little tidbits:
First, Leslie Carter (as in Nick & Aaron's "Like Wow" sister) has recorded NEW SONGS! After what was apparently an unceremonious breaking with her musical career at 13 (pretty sure she only recorded the "Like Wow" single and its B-side, "True," though I could be wrong about that.
You can stream the new songs at Leslie Carter's Myspace.
Also, Christy Carlson Romano, the voice of Kim Possible, wrote one of the Barbie Diaries tracks, "Note to Self." I'm excited to hear this one...her stream-able songs are pretty good as post-Courtney Love pop rock, though she seems to have more success as a songwriter (maybe a good thing). No further info on who wrote/produced the other Barbie stuff, though I did discover that Barbie Hit Mix, currently advertised on the Barbie site, was co-produced by legendary bubblegummer and 2005 Gummy Award recipient Joey Levine!!! Did he have a hand in Barbie Diaries? Only time will tell...
Stream a couple of songs at Christy Carlson Romano's Myspace.
2) RADIO DISNEY! CONFORM! CONFORM!
A quick High School Musical update...I was right that an HSM song went to #1 on Radio Disney this week, but I underestimated B5's name recognition, which put their rendition of "Getcha Head in the Game" at the top (Jesse hung on to #2). Not too crazy about any of the HSM songs, but the idea of it breaking through to Billboard is really intriguing.
In other RD news, the younguns have "Picked" (as opposed to "Kicked") this week's Musical Mailbag option:
Thanks for voting on Reggaeton Niño's "Oye Mi Canto"! Here's how you voted: 58% Picked It 42% Kicked It
Reggaeton on RD? Crazy...does this mean that I can include Daddy Yankee in my slowly evolving teen pop encyclopedia project (more on that one later)? (Radio Disney Edit of "Gasolina": "That's So Clean-a"?)
3) THE VERONICAS ARE NOT IDENTICAL TWINS, ARE THEY?
How the hell do the Veronicas plan on saturating the market if they keep putting references to sex and alcohol in all of their best singles? I'd hate to see this one fail to take off in the way it probably deserves to because it's too damn clever for it's own good! I predict "Everything I'm Not" will make a very mild dent in the RD Top 30, somewhat paralleling its placement in the Billboard Top 40 (hovering near 30, peaking at 15-ish maybe? That may be a little optimistic at this point).
You ain't gonna live 4ever, girls, but couldn't he just...you know, hold hands with you (both?) tonight?
IMMINENT SORTA-COMEBACK SPECIAL!
Leslie Carter - Like Wow!
