Conspicuously absent: "Part of Your World" by you-know-who.
Just received the Aquamarine OST (trailer available here...looks pretty cute/harmless. Jojo's bigtime big screen debut!)
So far I'm not floored by this thang, despite some reserved praise amongst teen pop connoisseur/enthusiasts. Musings and thoughts as follows:
First of all, Teddy Geiger needs to stop making music pronto. One of his tracks just got PICKED on RD, and the thought that this guy might further infiltrate any musical channels of any kind is unpleasant. Although I guess I can't get THAT mad at the guy for being a no-hook milquetoast shitkicker.
Second of all, a lot of this is pretty good, but overall the soundtrack is too littered with duds to be of any real interest. Of note (in a good way) are Courtney Jaye's "Can't Behave," and previously released (but still album highlight) "Summertime Guys," which until now I only had as a locked M4P file (oh, gee, I guess I can share it with everyone. For evaluation purposes...hm, I wonder how copy protected this recycled promo is...). Most of it sticks to bubblegum format with minor shades of confessional angst, although the boys are angstier than the girls, a definite plus.
The Jonas Brothers sound like chipmunk Jesse McCartney (Hanson, maybe) with a more frantic pop beat, and the first three tracks are passable going on decent. The highlight among them is probably swing-angst opener "One Original Thing" by Cheyenne Kimball: "Talk about yourself, but when the cameras are on you don't say nothin' at all..." hm, I'm getting an Esthero [mainstream pop]MAINSTREAM POP SUX[/mainstream pop] vibe. But the lyrics aren't that specific (or intelligible). Also, I think I did this EXACT honky-tonkish piano interlude during the Bumblebees set the other night.
Nikki Flores got nothin' on Nikki Cleary, although maybe they're not in direct competition. Emma Roberts: could it really be that hard to competently cover "Island in the Sun"? Awful. My first experience with stellastarr* leaves me feeling ambivalent. Bubblegum Interpol? "I want to suffer in your arms/ whooooa/ And when you're naked in the dark/ I want to see your face in the reflection of my bedroom stereo/ We'll take it slow" ...Bleah, who are these schmucks kidding?
Uh, Bodyrockers, you are scaring the children.
NO MORE CREEPY LECHEROUS-SOUNDING DUDES ON TWEEN SOUNDTRACKS, PLEASE.
ONLY PICK ONE (READ: TWO) AQUAMARINE OST TRACK, UNLESS YOU WANNA GET YER PANTS SUED OFF!
Cheyenne Kimball - 1 (Original) Thing (irony alert!)
Nikki Cleary - Summertime Guys
THIS CAME ON MY ITUNES AFTER I FINISHED LISTENING TO AQUAMARINE SO LET'S JUST ROLL WITH IT!!!!
Aqua - Happy Boys & Girls
